Cleopatra Halloween Costumes
Creating a Cleopatra costume is sure to turn heads and make you the belle of the ball. For women of all heights, weights and shapes, this is one costume that flatters from every angle. For a dynamic and polished look, will need to accumulate the following materials: white tunic, black wig, 2 upper armbands, 2 broad gold tone cuffs, Egyptian collar, rubber snake, sandals, black eyeliner, dangling earrings and a sash belt.
Hair
If you are not graced with natural shoulder length raven hair, then you will need to buy a wig. When selecting your black wig, the best choice is a cut that falls between your mid neck and shoulders. However, if there are none left in stock, don’t worry as you can buy a longer black wig and cut it yourself. If you need to trim the wig, place it on a dummy and cut carefully one section at a time. If you have no dummy, then wear the wig and have someone trim it for you. If you attempt to cut the wig without a visual reference, you may end up with jagged, uneven edges. For best bargains on the hair piece, try a costume shop rather than a beauty supply and save a ton of money. Costume wigs are well made and will last you for years.
Clothing
When selecting the dress, a lightweight cotton tunic works best. It should be white or off-white and reach down to your mid calf area as the ancient Egyptians did not wear sweeping hemlines to the floor. To give the garment a feel of authenticity, try buying a size larger which will make the dress hang loosely adding a swish when you walk. And the belt should be a wrap around sash type that can be tied to leave a dangling tassel. Dark colors work best for the belt as they add dimension to your waistline.

Shoes
To complete your Cleopatra costume, be sure to choose open toe sandals in neutral tones. Sandals from the Ptolemaic period were not unlike modern-day shoes, so this accessory is easy to be fitted. For a little extra fun and finishing touch, you may wish to add a rubber snake to the ensemble which may be pinned to your dress or wrapped around your arm or ankle.
Make-Up
The centerpiece for the Cleopatra make-up will be the pronounced black eyeliner. To make this effect, choose liquid liner over charcoal, as it will give you better control of the strokes. The eyeliner should be thick and follow the natural shape of the eyes on the top and bottom with a trailing edge extended straight out on the exterior of the eyes. A trick to keep your make-up looking fresh is to apply a foundation to your face and set it will powder. This make-up base will keep the extended eyeliner from smudging and sweating off if you are dancing.
Jewelry
The type of jewelry you will need is wide banded gold tone cuffs and complimentary upper arm bands. They can be purchased ready made, but if you find the upper arm band too binding, be sure to open them up and loosen with a fabric elastic band extension. The upper arm bands should fit snuggly to remain in place, but not too tight as to cut off your circulation. An Egyptian style collar is a must for every royal queen and they generally come in the one size fits all category. Your earrings should be colorful and dangling and make a powerful fashion statement. Try wearing gold tones with colored stones to match with the colors of your collar and cuffs. And, finally, this is one outfit that works well with anklet bracelets. Gussy up your feet with one or more choice ankle bracelets. And if they tinkle, all the better.
